Climbing out of my car in my driveway yesterday, I thankfully looked to the ground where I was stepping and by just a few inches I missed crushing a furry black and brown caterpillar. With relief, I immediately greeted it, āAwwww! Hey there, lil one!ā
See hereās the thing I know for sure⦠if given the opportunity to avoid all predators, this wooly worm will transform into a colorful creature that I would not even recognize in a couple of weeks unless I caught it, nurtured it and watched it undergo a divine, metamorphic process. But Iām not going to do that because Iām a nature lover (not a fighter š¤£) and I would be limiting the freedom of Godās creature. Instead I left it inching across the grass, praying that the lil guy would make it because the caterpillar was not designed to stay that way. Little did it know, there were so many upcoming phases it would have to endure before becoming an even more eye-catching & brilliant sight š¦.
Did you know that at some point during this 10-15 day metamorphosis the caterpillarās body breaks down into an almost soup-like composition to reorganize into the adult structures of a butterfly š¦ or a moth? We, Godās children, go through a similar transformation when we surrender completely to God, choose to trust Him in spite of our circumstances, pray, worship, serve others and read His Word. Because just like the caterpillar⦠we were not designed to stay the same! In the same sin, in the same unbelief, in the same brokenness, in the same habits, in the same grief, in the same place of being shattered, resentful, betrayed or wounded. Why? Because He gives us beauty for our ashes and He expects us to become more and more like Him. We are fearfully and wonderfully made! Thatās GOoD news, yāall! But, hereās the best part ā our Heavenly Father does not have to trap us to do this⦠all we have to do is fall freely into His arms daily and trust Him to get us through this phase, the next phase and the phase after that until one day He calls us to our eternal home. Until thenā¦
You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.
